Jodie E. Powell, of Frankford, has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation.
Powell graduated in June from Indian River High School in Dagsboro earning a weighted 101.3 grade point average on a scale of 100 while completing a course load of honors and advance placement classes. Powell was treasurer of the senior class and served as treasurer for the National Honor Society, and was a member of the Leo, varsity and environmental clubs. In the community, she volunteers for the Atlantic Community Thrift Shop, local fire companies, National Honor Society road clean-up projects, and the Indian River wrestling team.
In addition to this scholarship, she has been awarded a scholarship from WGMD 92.7 News Radio.
Powell will attend Towson University in Baltimore, where she plans to pursue a career in nursing with the goal of becoming a MedEvac nurse.
