A 30-year-old Laurel man was injured July 9 after he drove his motorcycle off a roadway in Seaford.
According to the Delaware State Police, the crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. as Shawn D. Hopkins was operating a 1993 Suzuki GSX-750F motorcycle at a high rate of speed northbound on Bethel Concord Road just south of State Route 20. Police said Hopkins was unable to negotiate a moderate left curve and drove off the east side of the road where he struck a ramped driveway culvert, vaulting himself and the motorcycle into the air. Police said the motorcycle landed about 80 feet into a yard before tumbling and rolling to a stop. Police said Hopkins, who was wearing a helmet, landed next to the bike.
Police said Hopkins was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to Christiana Medical Center with serious injuries.
Police did not provide further information regarding the circumstances prior to the crash or any charges associated with the incident.
