Preston “Buddy” W. Hitchens, Sr., age 62, of Laurel, passed away on July 9, 2013 at Peninsula Regional Hospital in Salisbury, Maryland. Born in Georgetown, he is the son of the late Preston Lee Hitchens and Catherine Talley Hitchens.
Buddy was a 1968 graduate of Georgetown High School. After graduating he proudly served his country in the Army National Guard for six years. He was a self-employed brick mason, and had worked for Dover Pools in Seaford. Buddy was a family man whom enjoyed attending and cheering on his grandchildren in all their accomplishments and sporting events, such as football, softball, and baseball. He also loved fishing, being outdoors, woodworking, and loved Nascar racing.
Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Lillian Christine Hitchens of Laurel. His son, Preston “BJ” Hitchens, Jr., and his wife Trish of Laurel, and his daughter Crystal Bergh and her husband Randy of Seaford. Two brothers, Horace Hitchens, and Kenny Hitchens of Georgetown. Three sisters, Deborah Watson, Faye Heck, and Peggy Pepper all of Georgetown. Grandchildren, Ashley Joseph, Colin Bergh, Lillie Hitchens, and Preston “Trace” Hitchens III.
A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 13th, 2013 at 4:00 pm at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home 700 West Street Laurel, Delaware 19956. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. The Pastor Steve Uhthoff will officiate. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel.
