  • The MOT 9 and 10 year-old girls' all-star softball team scored early and very often in a 16-6 victory over an all-star team from Felton–Harrington in the District One championship game played Monday evening at the MOT complex at Silver Lake in Middletown.
MOT exploded for five runs in the top of the first inning and continued to crush the softball all night long.
The girls were aided by a few miscues from the Felton-Harrington defense, but the MOT lineup made strong contact throughout the game against starter Lex Stahre and reliever Karley Cain.
Felton came back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first, but were unable to score again until pushing four runs across in the bottom of the sixth when the game was well out of reach.
Madison Bauerle was the starter and winning pitcher for MOT.
MOT then added four more runs in both the second and third innings, and three more for good measure in the top of the fourth to build a 14-run advantage. The game was halted after four innings due to the ten-run mercy rule.
The 9-10YO softball state tournament will be held at the MOT Silver Lake complex starting this Friday.
The District Two and Three champions, from Sussex County and News Castle County, respectively, will play in the first game. MOT will play their first game on Saturday.
Coaches and players exalted after the game, saying they were thrilled to be District One champions and couldn't wait for the state tournament on Saturday.
