A 60-year-old Lewes man received several traffic citations following single-vehicle crash today on State Route 9, just east of Piglet Path in Georgetown.
According to the Delaware State Police, Ronald S. Rybicki was operating a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche westbound on Route 9 around 1:15 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, he drove into the eastbound lanes and then off the south side of the roadway where he struck and severely damaged a pole and wires. Police said the vehicle continued into a cornfield where it came to a stop.
Rybicki was transported to Beebe Medical Center where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. He was cited for failure to remain in a single lane, no proof of insurance and no registration in possession.
The crash knocked out power for about 1,300 Delaware Electric Cooperative customers. Power has been restored to all but 74 customers. A spokesman for the electric company said power should be restored for those customers in about two hours after the damaged pole and wires are replaced.
