  • The Georgetown Planning Commission held its monthly meeting July 17 in Town Hall.
Two requests from Kevin Short with KHS Holdings, owner of Fellowship Health on Dupont Boulevard, to pave its parking lot with a weather resistant stone rather than an all-weather surface area and to decrease the mandatory landscaping buffer from 10 feet to 3.5 feet, were unanimously approved. Jocelyn Godwin of the town Planning Department said the business is reworking its parking lot as a result of several violations regarding a lack of dedicated spaces, driving some to park on the grass.
Several requests from Jose Luis Vicente Vasquez, owner of a property on N. Race Street who wants to open a computer repair business, were also unanimously approved. The property is located in the town’s historic district. Vasquez requested to pave his lot with a weather resistant stone rather than an all-weather surface area, relocate the inside staircase to the outside of the building, and expand the width of his driveway from the current 15 feet to 22.5 feet, rather than the required 25 feet. The commission offered their approval with several stipulations that ensure any changes Vasquez makes will coincide with the theme of the historic area.
