  • The Delaware State Police is investigating a rash of lawn mower thefts that have occurred in central and western Sussex County over the past few months.
Since late April, police said over 30 commercial grade, zero turn lawnmower thefts have been reported. Police said most lawnmowers stolen were left outside, unsecured. In several instances, police said, the owner left the lawnmower on a trailer and both were stolen together.
Police said the public should secure all lawn mowing equipment inside of a locked building when it is not in use. The public should not assume commercial grade lawn equipment is too heavy and cumbersome to steal.
If anyone has information regarding these thefts, they are asked to contact police by calling (302) 856-5850, ext. 206 or by utilizing the DSP Mobile Crime Tip Application available to download at www.delaware.gov/apps. Information may also be provided by contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-TIP-3333, via the Internet at www.tipsubmit.com, or by sending an anonymous tip via text message to 274637 (CRIMES) using the keyword “DSP.”
