    Schools achieving AYP were East Millsboro Elementary, John M. Clayton Elementary, Georgetown Elementary, Long Neck Elementary, Lord Baltimore Elementary, Phillip C. Showell Elementary, North Georgetown Elementary, Georgetown Middle, Millsboro Middle, Selbyville Middle, Indian River High, Sussex Central High, Southern Delaware School of the Arts and Howard T. Ennis.
    This marks the second consecutive year in which every district school has achieved AYP under the revised state accountability system.
    “Achieving Adequate Yearly Progress is a significant accomplishment. We are extremely pleased that every district school reached this important benchmark,” said Superintendent Susan Bunting. “These ratings are a testament to the talent, dedication and commitment of our instructional staff. Furthermore, parents should be delighted that the highly successful schools in our district are preparing their children to achieve rigorous performance standards.”
    The AYP formula is based on the percentage of students who achieve proficiency in the various content areas of the Delaware Comprehensive Assessment System. It also takes into account high school graduation rates, the percentage of students who participated in the state assessment and the average daily attendance rate of elementary and middle school students. Two years ago, the state discontinued the practice of assigning each school a rating such as “Superior,” “Commendable” or “Academic Watch.” Schools are now designated as having “Met AYP” or “Not Met AYP.”
    Indian River School District students in Grades 3-10 had a strong showing on the DCAS in 2013. The percentage of district students who were proficient in reading, math, science and social studies was significantly higher than the overall state average. Additionally, IRSD students ranked first in the state in third grade and fifth grade math. IRSD also ranked second in fourth grade social studies and third in third and fifth grade reading, fifth grade science and seventh grade social studies.
