A 49-year-old Georgetown man was arrested Aug. 31 after he allegedly assaulted a man with a machete.
According to the Georgetown Police Department, a 49-year-old male victim walked into the police station on N. Race Street around midnight claiming that Luis Torres had assaulted him with a machete. Police said they observed a severe laceration on the victim’s left hand that appeared to be cut to the bone. The victim told police the assault took place in the wooded area just north of Douglas Street. Police contacted medical personnel and the victim was transported to Beebe Medical Center where he was treated and released. Police said they checked the wooded area and located Torres. Police said they observed blood on Torres’ clothing and located two homemade machetes lying on the ground. Police said Torres was taken into custody without further incident.
Torres is charged with first degree assault, aggravated menacing and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of bond with a future court date.
