Season Outlook: After two straight losing seasons, the Sussex Tech Ravens football program decided to go in a new direction, hiring Mark Quillin as the team’s new head football coach. Now three seasons removed from their last DIAA state tournament berth, the Ravens are looking to find their way back into the hunt within the Henlopen Conference. If the Ravens are to be successful this season, they will do so with a fairly young team that will be led by a few returning seniors. In their final scrimmage against Maryland’s Parkside High School last Thursday, the Ravens looked strong on both ends of the field. On the offensive side, the Ravens look to have the size needed to compete this season, combining a capable running game with the ability to pass the ball when needed. The Ravens looked especially aggressive on defense, showing a strong pass-rush and a ball swarming mentality against the run. Whether or not what the Ravens have shown during the preseason will translate to the field this upcoming season is yet to be determined. However, so far the Ravens look like a different team than the one that has taken the field over the past few seasons.  The Ravens will have a chance to prove their contenders right away, as they open up their season against two upstate teams who finished with winning records last season, the A.I. duPont Tigers and St. Mark’s Spartans. Both games will be important to the Ravens as they begin the bulk of their conference schedule after their first two contests.
