  • Offenders from the Department of Correction's Sussex Boot Camp will spend the next week helping improve the West Side New Beginnings Community Center as part of a community project led by State Police Troop 7.
Cadets will work from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 23-27 at the West Side New Beginnings Community Center, 19801 Norwood St., Rehoboth Beach. Work crews will trim trees and brush, wash windows, paint the exterior of the community center, install some fencing, perform basic landscaping work and working on other small jobs.
The Sussex Boot Camp is an alternative to traditional prison. Cadets got through a six-month program that is divided into three phases. The first phase focuses on military-style discipline and life skills, the second on drug treatments and community service work, and the third on job-seeking and re-integration skills.
