Indian River High School's field hockey team lost a heartbreaker at Smyrna High School Thursday on a tie-breaking goal with less than a minute left in the second half.

In the opening period, the Eagles scored first at the 22:15 mark on a goal by Alivia Scuse with an assist by Stacey Staley.

The Lady Indians tied the game with just seven seconds left in the half when Sarah King scored with an assist by Emiley Shuey.

Both teams battled throughout the second half, but no one could score.

Then with just 59 seconds left in the half, Smyrna's Amanda Hennen hit the ball into the goal on an assist from Staley, and the Eagles held on for the win.

Indian River, now 1-5 on the season, is scheduled to play at home Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. against Caesar Rodney.

The Lady Indians have another home game on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. against Worcester Prep School from Maryland.
