  • The Sussex Tech Ravens pulled out a shocker against rival Sussex Central on Friday night, defeating the Golden Knights in come-from-behind fashion 28-27.
The Golden Knights came out on fire offensively, scoring 21 first-quarter points. Tarez White found the end zone for Central twice in the quarter, from 31 and 10 yards out, while James Jenkins also scored on the ground for Central in the quarter.
Willis Dickerson, coming off a great game last week against Milford, scored from 15 yards out for the Ravens.
The Tech defense would keep the Central defense quiet in the second quarter. With just minutes left in the half, the Ravens' defense made a key fourth-and-one stop on Central giving their offense great field position. Tech would capitalize on a Jamont Matthews 1-yard keeper, followed by a two point conversion to cut the Central lead to 21-15 at the break.
Both Tech and Central traded third-quarter touchdowns including failed 2-point conversions. Kevin Simms struck for the Golden Knights from 2-yards out, and Kani Kane broke loose for a 73-yard run cutting the Central lead to 27-21 heading into the fourth and final stanza.
With time running down in the fourth, the Ravens picked the perfect time to post the only score of the game through the air. Travis Quillen found Matthews for his second score of the game for Tech on a 14-yard touchdown pass, the extra point was good from Ryan Steeley and the Ravens had come all the way back to take the lead 28-27. With just over 2:00 left, the Ravens defense was able to hold the Golden Knights offense in check, solidifying the victory.
