Following consultation with local elected officials, the Delaware Department of Transportation has announced the permanent closure of the median crossover at the intersection of U.S. Route 113 and Kruger Road/Woods Branch Road near Georgetown.
Officials said the purpose of the closure is to improve the overall safety of motorists and to reduce angle crashes. Since 2008, there have been a total of 18 angle crashes at this intersection.
In preparation for the closure, construction signage and variable message boards have been posted to alert motorists and traffic restrictions in the area may be required due to roadwork to close the median. The permanent closure will take effect Oct. 16, weather permitting.
Motorists on U.S. Route 113 wishing to turn left onto Kruger Road or Woods Branch Road will now have to travel to the next crossover north or south of the intersection and make a U-turn, then travel back to the intersection and turn right. Motorists on Kruger Road or Woods Branch Road wanted to turn left onto or cross U.S. Route 113 will turn right onto U.S. Route 113, travel to the next crossover north or south of the intersection, make a U-turn and then travel back to the intersection where they will continue on U.S. Route 113 or make a right turn onto the side street.
