The Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club presented two $1,000 scholarships Sept. 16 to Christopher Dolder and Jeremiah Johnson.
Dolder and Johnson are two veterans who are currently students at Delaware Technical Community College's Owens Campus. The funds to support the two scholarships were raised on Memorial Day weekend 2013, when the local Rotary Club launched the Flags for Heroes project which displayed 300 American Flags at Cape Henlopen High School in an effort that raised more than $6,000 for community projects.
Christopher Dolder was a member of Delaware Army National Guard for approximately eight years and served a tour in Iraq, where he was responsible for maintenance on Black Hawk helicopters. After a brief stint in the restaurant industry, Chris decided that a career change was necessary and enrolled at Delaware Tech.
Jeremiah Johnson served in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas and Dover Air Force Base. Johnson was trained for engine maintenance on C-5 fleet in the Air Force.
