  • A two-year-old boy was seriously injured in an Oct. 16 crash in Laurel.
According to the Delaware State Police, the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. as 16-year-old Logan D. Ferrell, of Laurel, was operating a 2003 Ford Taurus westbound on Whitesville Road approaching the intersection of U.S. Route 13. Police said Ferrell came to a stop and then entered into the northbound lanes of U.S. Route 13, into the path of a 2008 Ford Fusion operated by 19-year-old Elizabeth M. Dennis of Smyrna. Police said the Fusion struck the Taurus on the driver's side causing the car to rotate clockwise and spin into the center median. Police said the Fusion continued northbound and came to a stop in the center median.
Police said a two-year-old boy, seated in the back seat behind Ferrell, was not properly restrained in a safety-approved car seat and was ejected into the front passenger seat. The boy, Ferrell's nephew, was flown to A.I. DuPont Hospital with serious injuries. He is currently listed in stable condition. Ferrell and a 16-year-old female passenger were both transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries. Dennis, who was properly restrained, reported no injuries at the scene of the crash.
Police are continuing their investigation into this incident and charges are pending.
