An Oct. 25 crash on Coastal Highway north of Dartmouth Road in Lewes left a 51-year-old Milford man critically injured.
According to the Delaware State Police, the incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. as 52-year-old Kevin Smith of Harbeson traveled south on Coastal Highway in a 2004 Buick Rendezvous. For an undetermined reason, police said the Buick crossed the median and entered into the northbound lane, striking a 1997 Saturn SL operated by Stanley Mutter of Milford, who was merging onto Coastal Highway from Dartmouth Road. Police said immediately after the vehicles collided, the Saturn was struck by a northbound 1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo operated by 46-year-old Lorena Vanegas of Georgetown, who had been traveling behind the Saturn.
Police said Smith was not injured, but was transported to Beebe Medical Center and admitted for treatment of a medical condition that was not caused by the crash. Police said Mutter was transported to Beebe, then flown to Christiana Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition. Vanegas and her passenger, 11-year-old Reyna Gil-Vanegas, were both transported to Beebe where they were treated for minor injuries and released.
Police continue to investigate the crash and no charges have been filed.
