  • A 19-year-old Milton man is facing numerous charges after he allegedly caused a multi-vehicle crash Oct. 30 near Milton while under the influence of alcohol.
According to the Delaware State Police, the incident occurred around 6:50 a.m. as Bonnie E. Mills, 67, of Lincoln, was operating a 2013 Blue Bird school bus for the Cape Henlopen School District east bound on Cave Neck Road. Police said the bus had come to a stop to take on a passenger and had the flashing red lights and stop sign illuminated. Police said Thomas Pavlic, 48, of Milton, was operating a 1999 Kawasaki motorcycle directly behind the bus and was slowing to a stop when a 2000 Ford Taurus operated by Marcos D. Perez-Matias failed to see the motorcycle and struck it with the front of his car. Police said Pavlic was ejected from the motorcycle to the south side of the roadway, while the Taurus continued in a north easterly direction, striking the left rear of the school bus before continuing to the north side of the road where it struck a utility pole and came to a stop.
Police said the school bus was carrying three male juvenile passengers whose ages range from seven to 10 years old. Mills and the students were uninjured in the incident. Pavlic, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to Beebe Healthcare in Lewes where he is currently admitted with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Police said Perez-Matias attempted to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended by two witnesses in the area. He is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, first degree vehicular assault, driving without a valid license, passing a stopped school bus, leaving the scene of a personal injury crash and operating a vehicle while using an electronic device. He refused medical treatment at the crash scene.
