From festive baked goods to clever NFL snowmen figurines made from wood, Delaware Technical Community College’s 30th annual Craft Fair boasts a variety of vendors that will satisfy the tastes of all fairgoers on Friday and Saturday at the Owens Campus in Georgetown.
In addition to typical Craft Fair items like tole paintings (folk art of decorative paintings on tin or wooden stencils) and reefs, there are some really neat new offerings at this year’s event.
One of those features will be 3-foot wooden NFL snowmen that represent the Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys. There will also be 3-foot wooden snowmen depicting branches of the military.
Fairgoers will also have the opportunity to create personal holiday cards this year. Other new featured items include homemade soaps and lotions, origami, homemade candy, crochet rugs and holiday-themed baked goods. There will also be jewelry made from clay and wooden walking canes that folks can customize.
Considering there was an estimated 60 vendors at last year’s Craft Fair, and currently there are approximately 60 confirmed vendors in counting for this year’s event, Delaware Tech Projects Coordinator Donna Gooner is pleased with the diverse offerings of items in this 30th annual event.
“It’s really versatile,” Gooner said. “I’m very proud of our Craft Fair. It’s usually very successful. It [rings] in the season, so to speak, because it’s more of a holiday [show], and it gets everyone in the mood and helps out our local economy.”
Tammi and Mark Ardecki, owners of the woodcrafts company MNT Country Crafts in Felton, are responsible for introducing the NFL and military-themed snowmen to the Craft Fair. The NFL snowmen would make for a fun gift. Meanwhile, the military snowmen could help comfort a person who has a loved one in the military who won’t be able to make it home for the holidays. After all, that’s how Tammi Ardecki got the idea to create these military figures.
“My son just recently joined the Marines last January and I wanted to have something to represent him at home,” she said. “My friend saw it and said, ‘you should sell one of these.’”
