  • Lewes teen attacked while walking home

  • A 16-year-old Lewes boy was attacked Nov. 18 in Peoples Memorial Park Cemetery in Rehoboth Beach.
    According to the Delaware State Police, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. as the victim was walking to his Lewes residence after leaving the Wawa on the corner of State Route 1 and State Route 24. Police said as the victim crossed through the cemetery, he was approached from behind by two male suspects who demanded his money. After informing them he had none, the victim said one of the suspects produced a small pocket knife and began going through his pockets. Police said the victim was able to briefly flee from the two suspects before they caught up with him and began punching him in the face. Police said one of the suspects extinguished a lit cigarette in the victim’s face before the two fled in an unknown direction without any items.
    Police said the victim was able to run to Midway Dollar Tree where he called 911. He was later taken to Beebe Healthcare where he was treated and released for the injuries he sustained during the attack.
    One suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s wearing an orange sweatshirt and armed with a pocket knife. The other suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s with a beard wearing a green sweatshirt and a gold necklace. It is unknown if the second suspect was armed.
