St. Georges plays Woodbridge Friday night in the semi-final round of the DIAA D-2 state football championship. The game will take place at Appoquinimink HS at 7:30 pm.
The high-flying St. Georges Hawks will take on the Woodbridge Blue Raiders Friday night in the semi-final round of the DIAA D-2 football state tournament. Last week, the Hawks outraced Indian River 42-35 in the opening round. Woodbridge meanwhile, defeated Tower Hill 28-21. St. Georges is lead by the speedy, and talented Selby Brothers, Taronn and Keyjuan. The twins play offense and defense, and are impact players on both sides of the ball. Other key players for the Hawks are Tymiere Griffin, who was injured last week, Zach Bowe and quarterback Zach Wright. It will be difficult to beat the 10-1 Hawks without stopping, or at least, slowing down the Selby brothers, and without scoring a lot of points on the stingy St. Georges defense. Woodbridge comes into the game with an 8-3 record. The Blue Raiders can score a lot of points as the offense averaged more than 25 points per game. Junior quarterback Logan Wescott, and senior receivers Shedrick Rayford and Anthony Jefferson lead Woodbridge's offense. This game will likely be a high scoring affair, so the team that makes the fewest mistakes, and plays the better defense, will likely be the one to advance to the state championship game next week.
