  • The Indian River School District is hosting a series of free financial aid workshops for students and their families to promote college awareness and enrollment.
Officials say every year, talented Delaware students do not apply to college because they think they can’t afford it. Through these workshops, participants will learn that financial aid of all varieties is more accessible than ever before and with some pre-planning, families will find that college is within their reach.
“Finding Money for College” will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 8 in the auditorium of Sussex Central High School, 26026 Patriots Way, Georgetown. College planning experts from the Delmarva Education Foundation and the Delaware Community Foundation will share application tips for college and scholarship applications, review local and national scholarship resources and help guide families through the college planning process.
“Completing the FAFSA” will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 14 in the library of Indian River High School, 29772 Armory Road, Dagsboro. Jeffrey Hanson, financial aid consultant, will take families on a tour of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and provide an overview of the information required to check your eligibility for federal college funding. FASFA submission assistance dates will be announced for both high schools at this workshop for families who need guided help in completing their individual FAFSA forms.
No pre-registration is required to attend these free events. For more information, call Michele Murphy at (302) 732-1522.
