  • The Rehoboth Beach Police Department is warning local business owners of a phone scam targeting Delmarva Power business customers.
Police said they received a complaint involving a local business owner contacted by phone by a party who identified themselves as the Delmarva Power Disconnection Center. Police said the party advised the business owner to purchase two $500 gift cards and provide the card numbers to the caller in order to avoid a service disconnection. Police said the victim became suspicious and called Delmarva Power, who advised that the call was not from their company.
Police are urging local businesses and residents to confirm late payments or any threats of disconnection of service by contacting their power company directly. If anyone has information regarding this scam, they are asked to contact Det. Lt. William L. Sullivan of the Rehoboth Beach Police Department at (302) 227-2577.
