  • A $5.2 million Highway Safety Improvement Project at three intersections along Del. Route 9 in Sussex County has started.
According to the Delaware Department of Transportation, a detailed traffic analysis has recommended additional turning lanes at the intersections. The project includes the widening of the intersections of Del. Route 9 at Hudson and Fisher roads in Milton, Del. Route 9 at Gravel Hill Road in Georgetown and Del. Route 9 at Sweetbriar and Dairy Farm roads in Lewes. Log Cabin Hill Road in Lewes will be realigned as part of the project.
Traffic is currently being shifted without any closures. Any work requiring lane closures will be performed between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m., Monday through Friday. DelDOT officials say motorists should drive with caution, slow in work zones and never enter a roadway blocked with barriers or cones.
The project is slated for completion by late December, pending weather.
