  • A 12-year member of the Delaware State Police who is currently assigned to Troop 4 in Georgetown has been named the 2014 Torch Runner of the Year by Delaware Law Enforcement for Special Olympics.
    Det. Jason Stevenson of the Sussex County Governor’s Task Force will have the distinct honor to deliver the Flame of Hope to Elizabeth Nolan, the Special Olympics Delaware Athlete of the Year, at the opening ceremonies of the SODE Summer Games on June 6 at the University of Delaware.
    Stevenson has been involved in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics since 2002. He’s played various roles in the event, including torch runner, volunteer, leg coordinator, agency rep and coach. He has presented medals at numerous athletic competitions throughout the state. He was also a member of the LETR Final Leg for the World Summer Games in Athens, Greece in June 2011.
    Stevenson will be promoted to the rank of sergeant on April 6 and will be reassigned to Troop 5 in Bridgeville.
