The Jefferson School introduces and announces new members who will serve on the board of directors.

The board of directors are appointed to three-year terms with new members appointed for the current 2013/14 school year.

The following have been appointed to serve on the board of directors for three year terms:

Nick Benz – President: Nick Benz is the Chief Operating Officer and part owner of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and affiliated companies.  He has an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and has worked all over the world as an engineer. He participates annually in a Habitat for Humanity house build and plays a support role in other charitable endeavors.

Charles L. Burton – Director: Charles Burton is the owner of I.G. Burton, Inc., a family-owned business with auto dealerships in Milford and Seaford. Burton has an eclectic background with a degree in criminal justice, experience in selling finance and insurance products, traveling the United States providing training services and even running an Indian reservation dormitory in South Dakota.

Richard Caruso, M.D. – Director: Richard Caruso, M.D. is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology and owner and medical director of Seaside Endoscopy Pavilion in Lewes. He grew up in Philadelphia, received his J.D. from Villanova Law School, graduated from Jefferson Medical Colleg  and completed his residency and fellowship through Lankenau Hospital in Pennsylvania. 

Alan Davis – Vice President: The Honorable Alan G. Davis took the bench as the fourth Chief Magistrate of the Delaware Justice of the Peace Court in July 2005. Prior to his position, he was an attorney with the Georgetown firm of Henry Clay Davis III, P.A. and served as chief minority counsel for the state House of Representatives. Judge Davis holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and received his J.D. from Widener University School of Law in Wilmington.

Rachael Edelmann – Secretary: Rachael Edelmann is a graduate of the University of Delaware with a B.A. in psychology concentrating in psycho-pharmacology. She earned an Executive M.B.A. from the University of Maryland, and attended Temple University’s Pharmaceutical Sciences M.S. program.  Ms. Edelmann is the President/CEO of Keiper & Associates, Inc., (KAI) which she founded in 2000. The firm is a global consultancy specializing in strategic planning and remediation services for complex regulatory compliance issues within the pharmaceutical, medical device, biotechnology, and health care sectors. She is an active member of the Health Care Compliance Association, Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society, Delaware Biotechnology Association and the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce.  

Joseph Kim, D.O. – Director: Dr. Joseph Kim is a family physician in Laurel and is employed with the Nanticoke Physician's Network.  He is the current president of the medical staff for Nanticoke Health Services and serves on the board of directors. Kim is a board trustee for the Delaware Academy of Family Physicians and past-president. He is also the Sussex County representative for the Medical Society of Delaware. He is very active in the community, volunteering his time with Salisbury University, Sussex Child Health Promotion Coalition, and the YMCA.

Amanda Peters – Director: Amanda Peters graduated in 2003 from Wilmington College with a bachelor’s degree in early education (K-4th). Peters is the COO and Co-Founder of DecalGirl. She is passionate about The Jefferson School culture and is very active in supporting the school’s activities and beliefs.

Angela Wootten – Treasurer: Angela Wootten is a licensed certified public accountant in the state of Delaware. She is currently the controller at Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and has experience in public accounting, including financial statement preparation, taxation, auditing and payroll reporting. Wootten graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in accounting from Wesley College in 2006. She is a member of the Delaware Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Institute of Management Accountants.

Constance R. Hendricks, Head of School – Director Ex Officio: Connie Hendricks has more than 24 years of experience with independent, private school teaching and administration. She began her career as a teaching assistant. Later, as a teacher, she taught various subjects including art, math, language arts, and social studies. Over the years, she instructed students from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade. She transitioned to administration when she became Head of the Upper Level of Centreville School in 1999 and then to direct enrollment and financial aid for Centreville School in 2008. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in human resource management and her master’s in education from Wilmington University.

Ginger Jensen, Marketing & Development Director – Director Ex Officio:  Ginger Jensen's experience includes working as marketing communications specialist at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, working with a local consulting company to assist with various state and medically related programs and working at Bayhealth Medical Center as Milford Memorial Hospital’s Patient Advocate. Ginger has a degree in communications and in human services.
