  • Sundra Hominik, an experienced journalist and editor, will be joining GateHouse Media Delaware as its new executive editor, effective June 23.
In a career that spans more than 20 years, Hominik has worked in newsroom leadership positions with newspapers in Pennsylvania, Delaware, South Carolina, Virginia, and most recently in Louisiana.
“My first newspaper job years ago was in a small town in Pennsylvania where I learned that the best and most valuable journalism reflects the community and the people who live there” Hominik said. “When readers can see their lives and what’s important to them on the pages of the newspaper and on the screens of their tablets and smartphones that means we’re doing our jobs as journalists.”
In making the recent announcement to staff at the group’s newspapers, Publisher Keven Todd made note of the fact that he and Hominik had worked together at a paper in Myrtle Beach, S.C., some years ago.
“After casting such a wide net and talking with numerous candidates, it’s a bit ironic that Sundra and I would reconnect on this opportunity,” Todd said. “Sundra brings a wealth of solid skills and a depth of experience to our operation that, I have no doubt, will enrich our journalistic efforts and bolster our push to produce content that brings even more relevance and impact to our readers’ lives.”
Hominik, who is involved in a number of professional organizations, including the National Association of Black Journalists, Society of Professional Journalists and Online News Association, said that she is looking forward to joining the operation that has a history of service to readers in Delaware.
“Each paper here is already delivering stories, photographs and videos that reflect their community and helps connect, inform and engage people. So I’m excited to be able to return to Delaware and to join the team as we continue to build on a strong foundation of community journalism,” she said.
GateHouse Media Delaware publishes the twice-weekly Dover Post, along with weeklies that include the Hockessin Community News, Middletown Transcript, Smyrna/Clayton Sun Times, Milford Beacon, and Sussex Countian.
The Express, a weekly shopper, is also produced by the operation based in Dover.
