On April 27 from 7-8 p.m. the Rehoboth Beach Writers’ Guild, in partnership with the University of Delaware will be hosting a special reading in honor of National Poetry Month, featuring acclaimed author Jeanne Murray Walker.

Jeanne Murray Walker is the author of six previous collections of poetry. Her seventh collection,  New Tracks, Night Falling (Wm. B. Eerdmans), has been described as “beautiful, accessible poetry that seeks out light in our current cultural darkness.” Or as Leslie Leyland Fields writes, “Yes night falls in these poems. But we’re in the company of a bold woman with a stout flashlight…”

Walker’s poems and essays have appeared in many periodicals, including Poetry, The Georgia Review, Image, The Atlantic Monthly, and Best American Poetry.  Among her awards are an NEA Fellowship, eight Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Fellowships, and a Pew Fellowship in The Arts.  A selection from her “Aunt Joe Poems” was featured on busses and trains with the Poetry in Motion Project, and her plays have been performed across the United States and in London.

“Jeanne Murray Walker's poems mirror her life in their deep generosity,” said University of Delaware Professor, Anne Colwell, who will be introducing Walker."

Walker’s poems give us back the beautiful particulars of the world that we so often miss, and through those particulars, they give readers the gifts of observance, passion, and hope.”

The reading, which is free and open to the public, is part of an ongoing monthly series hosted by the Rehoboth Beach Writers’ Guild in an effort to make poetry more accessible—and fun to hear--by presenting it a relaxed an elegant atmosphere. This reading also marks the first in on-going partnership with the University of Delaware, in an effort to make its nationally acclaimed speakers and writers more accessible to southern Delaware residents, as well as faculty and students at its Georgetown campus.
