On March 29, 141 entries created by students in grades kindergarten through 12 from all over the state were judged in the 2010 Junior Duck Stamp Contest. Winners will be unveiled on Saturday, April 24 during the annual Delaware Ducks Unlimited Greenwings Event at Owens Station in Greenwood.
Maria Ji, a 14-year-old from Wilmington and first place winner for grades 7 through 9, won best of show for her work, “Rising Glory,” an oil painting which depicts a blue-winged teal taking flight. Her winning Duck Stamp entry will be judged on April 23 in the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Design Contest, sponsored by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Office of the Interior and held this year at the Science Museum of Minnesota.
Second runner up Emily Buck, age 15, a first place winner for grades 10 through 12, attends Woodbridge High School in Bridgeville, and was one of several western Sussex students who excelled in the annual contest.

Entries, which should depict a species chosen from a list of North American ducks, were sponsored by 11 teachers with 11 schools and organizations, plus individuals. A list of honorable mentions is available on request.
