Seaford Police detectives, in continuing their investigation into the sexual assault that allegedly occurred on Monday, July 26, at approximately 12:30 a.m., have arrested suspect Dwayne Coffin, 39 of Seaford, on several charges.
At approximately 3:20 a.m. on Monday, the Seaford Police Department received a report from Nanticoke Hospital staff regarding a rape of the victim, which had occurred in the area of the Seaford High School track located on Virginia Avenue. Police determined that the victim was walking in the area of the track when the suspect, who allegedly struck the victim several times with his fist then sexually assaulted her, first confronted her.
Detectives were able to link the defendant to the crime based on the suspect description provided by the victim, as well as information provided by the suspect. After consulting with the Delaware Attorney General’s Office, detectives obtained warrants for the defendant on the following charges: rape, kidnapping second degree, theft under $1,500, three counts of offensive touching, and criminal mischief.
Coffin was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court #3 in Georgetown and committed to the Department of Corrections in lieu of $112,500 cash bond.
