Hard as it is to believe, we are already nearly a quarter of a way through the prep sports spring season.

Sadly, due to a downsized schedule for teams in all sports, not many teams are taking advantage of the great weather over spring break.

Regardless of temperatures, when action does pick up again beginning this weekend and into next week, it should be pretty hot.

Important conference games are slated for the upcoming days, plus, it is that time of year when the contenders begin to separate themselves from the pretenders.

Not to mention that fact that some clubs that entered the year with high expectations but are struggling now will need to do all they can in the coming weeks to right the ship.

Following are the reported scores from all local high school sporting events.

BASEBALL
Sussex Central 8, Caravel 2 Central senior ace Trevor Wilkins helped himself out at the dish with a 3-for-3 day and three RBI while tossing six innings of seven-strikeout ball in a non-conference Golden Knights victory. Junior Kevin Guthrie doubled during a two-hit day that included a RBI, while classmate Chris Conaway also had a two-base hit and knocked in a score.

Polytech 7, Indian River 6 IR suffered its first loss of the season to Henlopen South frontrunner Polytech despite a pair of two-run home runs by Tyler Dean and Jake Sieders. Dean also doubled in the contest, as did sophomore Jamie Jarmon.

Indian River 14, Milford 0 Indians senior Corey Showalter had a huge day at the dish with pair of homers – one a grand slam, the other a two-run blast – as IR throttled conference foe Milford.
