It was a storybook comeback for the Super Liga Familiar de Delmarva on June 22, as they roared back from a 1-0 first-half deficit to defeat the Liga Independiente de Georgetown, 3-1, in the first all-star matchup between the two Sussex soccer leagues.

After a quick-paced first half that saw Liga Independiente strike first during the 34th minute, the first half ended with some excitement during the third minute, which saw a great save from the Independiente goalie on a Super Liga breakaway, as well as some confusion when the Super Liga goalie got caught outside the box while chasing the ball and had to scramble back to his net.

Then, in the game’s final 13 minutes, Super Liga Familiar sprang to life and banged through the equalizing goal at 12:02. Not content to settle for overtime, a diving header put them ahead with less than three minutes left (2:30), and then, less than two minutes later (1:02), Super Liga put the game away for good and took a 3-1 lead to preserve the win.

Proceeds from the match will go to benefit the Delaware Safety Campaign, aimed at fostering cooperation between Hispanic immigrants and local law enforcement.
