A Georgetown man is in custody, charged in connection with a Friday stabbing at the Best Value Inn.

Georgetown Police, with assistance from the Delaware State Police and Laurel Police Department, arrested Jose Luis Castro, 40, of Georgetown, for his part in the stabbing assault of a 39-year-old male victim.

According to the police report, state troopers were dispatched to the Laurel Flea Market to respond to a stabbing victim.

Investigation revealed the victim had been stabbed while trying to break up a fight, between Castro and another subject, at the Best Value Inn in Georgetown. During the altercation, Castro apparently became upset with the victim, pulled a pocketknife and stabbed him several times in the back, chest, right arm and right leg, Lt. Lawrence Grose said.

Laurel Police received a broadcast description of Castro, who had fled the scene, and he was located behind the Laurel Auction Block. Castro was then tuned over to Georgetown Police and charged with first-degree assault and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.

The victim was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, where he was treated for his injuries and released.

Grose said Castro and the victim were staying together at the Best Value Inn and were both migrant workers.

Castro was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of bond, and a detainer from Immigration and Custom Enforcement was placed on him.
