It’s time for Read Aloud Delaware’s 24th Annual Conference, Llama Drama & Literacy. The conference offers more than 20 workshops for early childhood professionals, teachers, librarians, parents and volunteers. The conference is designed to encourage individuals working in early childhood education to integrate pre-reading skills into their classroom activities. It is the only conference in Delaware specifically geared to this purpose. The conference offers teachers and child care providers an opportunity to earn training credits. Read Aloud Delaware offers 5 hours of credit to child care providers and 5 clock hours of credit for teachers. Read Aloud Delaware’s 24th Annual Conference is scheduled for Saturday, March 13, 2010 from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Caesar Rodney High School in Camden, DE. Workshops run 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The keynote speaker will be children’s book author and illustrator, Anna Dewdney. Anna Dewdney is the author of Llama Llama Red Pajama and the New York Times Bestseller and Book Sense Honor Book Llama Llama Mad at Mama. She lives in southern Vermont and is the mama of two away-at-school daughters and two stay-at-home dogs. Her latest book and instant favorite, Llama Llama Misses Mama, was released last year. In a recent interview, she wrote: "I hope young readers will relate to Little Llama, laugh at him and with him, and cuddle closer with their parents as they read together. I hope my books will deepen the relationship children have with their parents, and empower children through that relationship."
Conference workshop selections include sessions on literature-based experiments for kids, the language of art, the Language Experience Approach to literacy, preparing young children for reading, and many, many more! These workshops are led by teachers, professors, librarians and storytellers, all of whom have extensive knowledge in the areas of childhood literacy and education. The conference offers teachers and child care providers an opportunity to earn training credits. Read Aloud Delaware offers 5 hours of credit to child care providers and 5 clock hours of credit for teachers.
