For nearly half of his life 16-year-old Lewes native, Brandon White has been racing karts.  He started as a Junior 1 at local tracks like US-13 Kartway in Delmar.  During the past eight-years he has climbed thorough the ranks to where this season he’s begun competing against adults who’ve been racing karts longer than he’s been alive.

Despite the experience of his competition White has been winning big races like the North Carolina/Virginia Money Series last Saturday night (April 11) at Margarettsville Speedway in Margarettsville, N.C. where he won in Animal Heavy, earning him $1,000.

“I don’t know what I’ll do with the money,” White said after his win adding, “I’ll probably put it in my bank account.”

That afternoon White produced the top-qualifying lap in 14.673 seconds on the quarter-mile tack, 0.004 seconds ahead of veteran Kevin Turner who shared front row with him.  From there White rocketed away from the talented 31-racer field. Behind him former national champions Shane Bass, Jared Jackson and Jason Higginbotham battled three-wide for second.  In the final laps Bass secured second and set his sites on White who was too far from him to offer any serious challenges before it was over.

“I didn’t know they were back there.  You can hear the sound of the motors coming, but I just held onto it and drove,” White said.  “The Galaxy chassis handled like a dream.  I couldn’t have asked for anything better.  Mishue Motorsports motor and chassis’ are awesome.  I want to thank Andy Murray for working on my tires and everybody that helped me get this win.”

White’s $1,000 was just part of the $16,930 winnings paid out that evening.  Over 300 racers from New York to Georgia entered the series second round.  Round three is scheduled for Saturday June 6th.

Meanwhile, White returns to Virginia in two weeks where he’ll be competing in the Virginia Dirt Karting Association’s (VDKA) first race of the season.  The VDKA is one of the nation’s toughest series drawing national caliber competition to Capital City Speedway in Ashland, Va.  On May 16th he will join VDKA racers in round three, which will be hosted by Amelia Motor Raceway in Amelia, Va.
