Delaware flags will remain at half-staff by order of Gov. Jack Markell, in memory of Georgetown Ptlm. Chad Spicer, who lost his life in a Sept. 1 shooting in Georgetown's Kimmeytown neighborhood.
Spicer and Cpl. Shawn Brittingham were shot after chasing three suspects from the McDonald's on U.S. 113 into Kimmeytown, in the northeast quarter of downtown Georgetown. As they began to exit the car and give chase on foot, at least one of the suspects fired, striking Spicer in the face and Brittingham in the neck, according to state police, who are handling the investigation.
Two suspects, including 22-year-old Derrick Powell, of Cumberland, Md., have been arrested, and police are seeking leads on a third suspect, 20-year-old Christopher Reeves, of Lincoln.
