Delaware Transit Corporation will conduct public-hearing workshops to obtain comments on proposed changes to DART First State Paratransit Service, set to become effective July 1.
A Sussex hearing will take place Monday, March 22, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Georgetown Easter Seals – 2nd Floor Conference Room, 22317 DuPont Hwy., Georgetown.
Summary of proposed changes
DART First State will identify services required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) from other transportation services provided in Delaware. Paratransit services will still be provided statewide with only minor modifications.
ADA service
• Trip origin and destination must be within ¾ mile of a fixed route.
• Available during all days/hours that fixed route service is operating and/or standard operating hours within each county.
• Travel time will be comparable to same trip on fixed route, taking into consideration walk times and transfer times (excluding express routes).
Non-ADA service
• Trip origin and/or destination is outside ¾ mile of a fixed route area
• Available during standard operating hours within each county. Trips will be grouped in order to achieve maximum efficiencies. Alternative travel times may be offered in order to accommodate trip requests.
• Travel times will be dependent on travel distance.
• Door-to-door for the aging
• Certification based on age only (without a disability) will change from age 60 to age 65 to be consistent with all other DART programs. Individuals currently certified based on age only will continue to receive services.
• Trips will continue to be provided on a space available basis.
Details of this proposal are available for public review at most libraries, state service centers and at the reception desks of DART First State offices and the DelDOT Administration Building in Dover, and online at www.DartFirstState.com.
