The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a serious crash involving a pedestrian that occurred early this morning, Wednesday, Jan. 11, south of Greenwood.
The incident occurred around 2:46 a.m., as 32-year-old Aaron J. Marchincin, of Seaford, was driving a 2011 Ford E250 Econoline van north on Route 13, just north of Adams Road. 47-year-old Antonio Lambert, of Greenwood, was walking west to east, across the northbound lanes of Route 113, when the van struck him in the right travel lane and threw him into the grass median. The van was able to come to a controlled stop just north of the impact site.
Lambert, who was wearing dark-colored clothing and not crossing in a crosswalk or carrying a flashlight, was removed from the scene and initially transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to Christiana Medical Center. He was admitted there in critical condition. Marchincin was properly restrained and uninjured in the crash.
Alcohol may be a factor on behalf of Lambert. Police continue to investigate.
Route 13 northbound in the area of collision was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
