The 21st annual Milford Memorial Day Ceremony is set for 10 a.m. May 29 at the Milford Senior Center, 111 Park Ave.
For the past five years, this ceremony has been held in the Milford Senior Center so attendees can be seated and are not being subjected to weather changes.
The ceremony will include The Milford Community Band playing patriotic music with a sing-along. Milford Mayor Bryan Shupe will give his welcoming speech to all,and the opening and closing prayers will be done by the Rev. Royce Andrus, of the Lighthouse Christian Center in Milford.
This year’s keynote speaker is Lt. Col. Vincent M. Orlando, Battalion Commander of the 198th Expeditionary Signal Battalion of the Delaware Army National Guard. A veteran representing each of the five military services, the Merchant Marines and a representative of the Gold Star Mothers will place a memorial flower on the remembrance wreath.
Rep. Harvey Kenton and Sen. Gary Simpson will give their comments on the meaning of Memorial Day to them. Charles Garrod, a Korean War Veteran, is the ceremony chairman. Garrod also has served as the Delaware department commander of the Korean War Veterans Association.
Boy Scout Troop 186 from Avenue Methodist Church, Boy Scout Troop 116 from St. John the Apostle Church and Cub Scout Pack 186 from Avenue Methodist Church will participate in the program, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Council 6438 will provide a staged 21-gun salute.
