Lewes Mayor Ted Becker is encouraging commuters to bicycle to work on Bike to Work Day, May 19.
At the April City Council meeting, Becker proclaimed May as Bike Month in Lewes and noted May 19 is Bike to Work Day. He encouraged citizens to use their bicycles to go to work or school, to run errands and leave their cars in the garage.
His proclamation also recognized the efforts of the Lewes Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, which is organizing the mayor’s bike to work ride.
Cyclists are encouraged to arrive at the mayor’s house, 205 Second St., Lewes, around 8 a.m. May 19 for a ceremonial ride through Lewes. Helmets are mandatory, and the ride will follow a flat route through town to City Hall on Third Street. Riders will receive a commemorative shirt that recognizes Delaware’s Bike to Work Day.
