The Delaware Department of Transportation, in conjunction with its contractor, Traffic Lines Inc., will modify the roadway lane striping on Shuttle Road between state Route 1 and the Outlet/Rehoboth Gateway Driveway.
The modifications will include the narrowing of the existing lanes to provide for a separate left-turn lane for Shuttle Road westbound traffic. This change will allow for smoother and safer traffic flow through this high-traffic area.
"While the Department knows that this is only a short term modification to the traffic on Shuttle Road, it is a step in the right direction and should provide the needed relief while we come up with a longer term solution for this road and related intersection" said Secretary Jennifer Cohan. "I am grateful to the area legislators that worked with us on this initiative, and I have asked my team to implement this change as soon as possible."
"I'm pleased and thankful that in the midst of the busy summer season here at the beach, DelDOT kept troubleshooting and designed, what we all hope, will be an improvement that makes the Shuttle Road intersection safer for our locals and the traveling public alike," said Sen. Ernesto Lopez.
"As a representative of the beach area, I can tell you firsthand that this intersection needed attention and not attention a year from now. I am happy to report that we were able to work with DelDOT to come up with this short-term relief for residents and tourists that routinely use Shuttle Road. This also represents my ongoing commitment to keep our resort areas transportation and traffic needs front and center of my agenda" said Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf.
Work is scheduled to take place from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Aug. 1 and 2. Lane closures will be in place with flaggers on-site to direct motorists.
Motorists should be aware that construction crews and equipment will be operating in close proximity to the travel lanes and anticipate lane shifts.
Rain Date is Aug. 2 and 3.
