Katherine A. Cooper has been committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of bail

Police in Harrington have arrested a Dagsboro woman after she allegedly assaulted one of their officers.

The officer was not hurt, said department spokesman Capt. Earl Brode.

The case began Tuesday, July 25 when officers went to the Salty Wave seafood restaurant to investigate a call about an assault having taken place inside a vehicle, Brode said. Police arrived to find 20-year-old Katherine A. Cooper still in the vehicle with the alleged victim.

The victim told police Cooper had started the fight while the vehicle was in motion, Brode said.

As the officer reached inside to turn off the engine Cooper allegedly grabbed the officer’s arm and tried to push him away. Yelling and cursing, she allegedly refused orders to get out and began fighting as officers tried to remove her. She eventually was taken into custody, he said.

The victim, however, declined to press charges. However Cooper was charged with offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and underage possession or consumption of alcohol.

Cooper has been committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of an unspecified secured bond.
