The General Federation of Women's Clubs Zwaanendael Women’s Club of Lewes’ fall food drive replenished the Cape Henlopen High School’s Food Bank and filled Thanksgiving baskets for in-need students and their families because of The Harry K Foundation, Giant Food in Rehoboth and community members who helped to fill the collection box at Lloyd’s Market in Lewes.
More than 1,000 pounds of food were collected, and 20 turkeys were purchased by The Harry K Foundation, which works to defeat childhood hunger in Delaware. Bob Suttmiller, Giant Food manager, applied the store’s Thanksgiving special to all 20 turkeys.
CHHS Food Bank is available to students who need further help supplementing their basic food needs and is supported in part by the GFWC Zwaanendael Women’s Club continuing Community Improvement Project. The goal of the CHHS food bank is to ensure students can concentrate on their studies without having to worry about where they will get their next meal.
