Phillip C. Showell Elementary School, 41 Bethany Rd, Selbyville, in partnership with local artist John Donato, is creating a “History of Selbyville” mural in one of the school’s hallways and will host a series of special events leading up to its March 7 unveiling.
Students began painting the mural Jan. 19, and work will continue until the official unveiling.
The family of Phillip C. Showell will host an assembly to talk about the history of the family and school at 9 a.m. Feb. 8.
Donors Paint Day is set for 12:35-1:15 p.m. Feb. 12, during which time local business owners and community members who made monetary donations towards the creation of the mural and the school’s mural-themed T-shirts are invited to paint. Light refreshments will be served in the art room.
The mural will be unveiled to students during the school day at 1:30 p.m. March 7 and to families and community members from 5 to 7 p.m. The presentation will begin with the viewing of a short documentary film about the project and a presentation by Delaware Secretary of Education Susan Bunting.
