An 84-year-old woman has died

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a Wednesday, Feb. 7 house fire in Georgetown that critically injured one person and killed another.

The Georgetown Fire Company responded to the unit block of Teaberry Lane, in the Village of Cinderberry, shortly after noon. Firefighters found smoke inside the house and two injured occupants, an 84-year-old female and a 54-year-old male.

Both were originally transported to the Beebe Medical Center in critical condition, suffering from burns, and later to Crozer Burn Center in Upland, Pennsylvania. The female died of her injuries on Thursday, Feb. 8. She was Delaware's first fire fatality in 2018.

State fire investigators are working to determine the fire’s origin and cause. Damages to the home are estimated at $5,000.
