Twenty-four future leaders from Indian River High School’s chapter of Business Professionals of America competed at the Spring Leadership Conference held at the Dover Downs Conference Center on Feb. 27.
IRHS students vied with the best students statewide in events that included interview skills, video production, entrepreneurship, PC troubleshooting and small business management, among others. The top few advanced to the BPA National Leadership Conference, scheduled for May 9-14 in Dallas.
Ten Indian River High School students brought home trophies in six separate team and individual events. Each earned a place on the state of Delaware delegation to the National Leadership Conference.
Brooke Weaver earned first place for interview skills. Gavin Clattenburg earned first place for extemporaneous speech. Alexa Fitz earned second place for entrepreneurship. Luke Morgan earned second place for banking and finance. Morgan Bartholomew, Elaina Lopez, Jabes Lopez and Josue Lopez earned second place for video production. Nick Marchetti earned third place for entrepreneurship. Isaac Chandler earned third place for PC servicing and troubleshooting.
Additionally, six students from IRHS — Madison Barker, Morgan Bartholomew, Gavin Clattenburg, Helen Davis, Alexa Fitz and Luke Morgan — were recognized for their service to the community through BPA’s Torch Awards program. The Torch Awards program provides structure and guidance to BPA members as they develop their leadership and networking skills through service to their chapter and the community at large.
