The success of this year’s Delaware Technical Community College men’s lacrosse team can easily be traced to the Henlopen Conference — the Delaware high school sports conference that comprises all of the high schools in Kent and Sussex counties.
Delaware Tech’s four offensive leaders come from Henlopen Conference high schools — sophomore Sean Sheehan from Cape Henlopen High School, freshman Jacob Copio from Caesar Rodney High School, freshman Jacob Soroko from Smyrna High School and freshman Connor Garret from Dover High School.
“All of them were starters or contributors for their respective high schools,” Delaware Tech head coach Anthony Edwards said. “And they all come from winning programs.”
All four rank in the Top 35 of total goals the National Junior College Athletic Association as of April 16. Copio is leading the way with 44 goals, which ranks him second in the nation, while Garret has 22, Sheehan has 21 and Soroko has 20. Delaware Tech is undefeated in Region XIX.
“This is the best group of talent from Delaware that we’ve had in the 10 years of this program,” said Edwards. “To have that many guys on one team who can put up those types of numbers is pretty extraordinary.”
