The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police will hold a kickoff event for National Safe Boating Week at 11 a.m. May 18 at the Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police Boat Dock, next to DNREC’s Lewes Facility, 901 Pilottown Road.
National Safe Boating Week, May 19-25, will begin. The main purpose is to highlight the importance of following safe boating practices, with emphasis on wearing a lifejacket. The partnerships and volunteer boating safety instructors that support boating safety education in Delaware and the Governor’s Proclamation for Safe Boating Week will be featured.
DNREC Secretary Shawn M. Garvin, Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police Chief Drew Aydelotte, Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources police officers and representatives from DNREC’s Office of Boating Safety & Education, U.S. Power Squadrons, U.S. Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary volunteer boating safety instructors, state and local officials are expected to attend.
