The League of Women Voters of Sussex County, Delaware Technical Community College and the Sussex Family YMCA are marking National Voter Registration Day with efforts to get eligible residents registered in time to vote in the Nov. 6 elections.

Scheduled for Sept. 25 — the fourth Tuesday of September — National Voter Registration Day is an annual, nationwide event that adds new voters to the rolls. The deadline for registering in the November general election is Oct. 13.

“We’re targeting young people and communities that have been underrepresented at the polls in the past,” said Connie Jones, LWVSC voter service chair. “Our volunteers will be registering residents in person at Del Tech and the YMCA on Sept. 25, and we’re spreading the word that anyone with access to the internet can easily register online.”

Sussex County residents who are U.S. citizens, 18 years old or older, can visit ivote.de.gov to register.

VOTE411.org, the league’s nonpartisan voters’ guide, also provides information on voting procedures, polling locations, sample ballots, and applications for absentee ballots. Candidates running in each district have been invited to post their biographical information and answers to questions on key issues on the VOTE411 website.

“The league’s aim is to get everyone out to vote, regardless of party affiliation,” said LWVSC President Martha Redmond. “Our organization does not support or oppose any political party or candidate for public office.”
