42-year-old Brandan H. Ellwanger, of Newark, arrested

A Newark man was arrested for felony third-offense DUI on Sunday in Rehoboth Beach.

Just before 1 p.m. on October 28, police responded to the third block of Rehoboth Avenue for a report of a hit and run. Officers determined that 42-year-old Brandan H. Ellwanger had been driving a Pontiac Torrent and attempting to make a U-turn when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a GMC Yukon that was parked along the north shoulder. Witnesses told police that Ellwanger then backed up and fled the scene west on Rehoboth Avenue.  

About 40 minutes later, Ellwanger contacted police to inform them of the collision. Upon responding to his location, officers found he showed signs of intoxication. Ellwanger was charged with felony third-offense DUI, leaving the scene of a property damage collision and traffic offenses. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $2,303 bail.
